Plant Vogtle, operated by Southern Nuclear on behalf of Georgia Power and co-owners, is the only nuclear power plant in the United States currently adding new generating capacity, with Units 3 and 4 representing the first new nuclear units built in the U.S. in more than 30 years. The facility employs approximately 800 permanent workers in Burke County and generates enough electricity to power 1 million homes.
