What to look for in a racing simulator rental
1. Full motion or static
A full-motion rig sits on a platform whose actuators tilt and shift the seat to suggest braking, acceleration and cornering. SIGMA Integrale, for example, builds its DK2 motion system around servo-driven actuators in three- or four-actuator versions, and its software adds vibration layers such as engine vibration on top of the larger movements. Our full-motion rigs run on SIGMA Integrale 2DOF/3DOF electric motion platforms.
Static (non-motion) rigs cost less and turn guests over quickly, though every rig SimsForHire rents is full-motion. One honest caution for either type: researchers note that simulators and large screens can trigger symptoms similar to seasickness in some people, so short sessions and an easy way out of the seat matter. 2. The wheel and pedals
Ask what hardware is in the rig. A direct-drive wheelbase connects the motor to the wheel without gears or belts in between, so road detail reaches the driver's hands with less filtering than geared gaming wheels. Pedals matter as much: a load-cell brake measures how hard you press rather than how far the pedal travels. Heusinkveld's Sprint brake, for instance, uses a 120 kg load cell and handles up to 65 kg of braking force, which is closer to how a real car's brake feels.
3. Software and tracks
Serious racing software uses laser-scanned circuits. iRacing says its scans reproduce the cracks, camber and undulations of the real track surface. Ask which titles are installed for your date and whether the company can run a live leaderboard.
4. Staffing, insurance and setup
Find out who delivers, sets up, runs sessions and tears down, and whether the company can hand your venue a certificate of insurance.
