A racing simulator can work at a yacht party, but only in the right conditions: the boat stays docked or in calm water, there is a level, covered deck area for the rig, and there is safe power. A full-motion rig on a moving boat adds the platform's motion to the boat's, which invites motion sickness, so we only recommend it with the boat docked or in very calm water. Ask us first; we'll tell you honestly whether your boat works.

Motion on top of motion

Medical researchers explain motion sickness as a conflict between what the eyes, the inner ear and the body report, the intersensory conflict model. The same review notes that simulators and large screens can cause symptoms close to seasickness even when people aren't moving. A motion platform on a rocking deck sends the inner ear two sets of movement at once, which can make that conflict worse. Our full-motion rigs use SIGMA Integrale electric motion platforms built to imitate a car; every rig we rent is full-motion, so on water we recommend keeping it for a dockside party in calm conditions ($2,750 per rig, per day, plus tax and insurance).

Check the charter rules first

Before you plan entertainment, make sure the boat is legal for your group. The U.S. Coast Guard requires a Certificate of Inspection for vessels carrying more than six passengers for hire, with fines for operators who don't have one. In one Miami case, the Coast Guard stopped a 63-foot yacht near Miami Beach Marina that was carrying nine paying passengers as an illegal charter. The operator and captain also have to approve any rig on deck.

Logistics checklist

  1. Loading: how does equipment get from the parking lot to the slip? Ask the marina about carts, gangway width and loading times.
  2. Deck space: a level, covered area that won't block crew movement or safety equipment.
  3. Weather: sun on screens, rain and salt spray all need a plan; simulators are electronics.
  4. Power: shore power or the boat's generator; we confirm requirements when we quote.
  5. Securing the rig: the captain decides where it goes and how it is secured.
  6. Insurance: marinas and operators often ask for paperwork. We are fully insured in the United States and provide certificates of insurance on request.

Often the better option: race onshore

If the boat is tight, put the simulators at a waterfront venue, the marina's event space or the host's home, and keep the yacht for cruising. Boat-show week is a natural fit for that kind of onshore activation: the Miami International Boat Show runs February 10–14, 2027. See brand activations and private parties.
